Le proposale de final

So after a lot of thinking, I think I have something in mind to do. I guess.. I do.. might.. maybe..
What I have in mind is kind of a mood-buddy. The physical structure goes like this:
A four-sided pyramid. The triangular sides refer to different moods/personalities and the square base is where the structure opens out to life.

The Narrative:
Why prism?
If light is to mood-buddy, spectral colors are to different moods... what?!!
Mood-buddy is a full character, but when it is placed on different sides, the character changes mood depending on that.
The main idea is this; sometimes it's quite hard to get along with life and sometimes all we need is comfort from someone/anyone. The mood-buddy is there just to share feelings.

The Technicality:
Four sides = four buttons. The toy will have a weight inside that will be heavy enough to press the button on whatever side it is.
As output I'm not sure what to use: LED and sound is my plan for now. The square base is where the output is going to come from.

What's up next:
First I have to decide on which kind moods I need and how to represent them. Later on I will start working on the patch and board. Hopefully..

Curtis Bain

Wow.. It's so interesting to see someone from the beginning of Max/Msp and physical computing. I can't even think about the days where there were no chips to upload and work directly from the computer.
Even though I'm not interested in the musical aspect of this program, I loved how Curtis Bain created something new without interacting with the computer. Especially putting up a dance show with the instruments in hand sounds interesting, but something feels wrong there. If the dancer has the control to do the music, where does the musician stand? I'm a little stuck at this question, but still I'm in love with the idea.
Nice meeting with you Curtis Bain! Come again!

da patch

I guess this is the final patch I have for the midterm.. I bet I'm gonna have a lot of problems running it tomorrow!
Good luck people..

still progress..

As I go on working in this project, it looks a lot more boring day by day. I was hoping to add some visuals but I guess it's too late?
So here is the latest patch. I'm planning to add another sound and that's it. Physical computing-wise, The buttons are connected to the arduino, but the box is not ready yet.
It's on the way.. on the way..

progress!!

Well, finally the project got on some solid ground. Right now the patch is reading the digital inputs and play the sound it's assigned.
Now all it's left is to bring the all the sound together in that patch and hook up some more buttons.
now I need a drink.

hmm, how?

I've been thinking how to connect physical computing with Max/MSP. Well, I stopped thinking and looked for it, here's a link for how to connect a joystick to max/msp and so..

Brainstorming.. still..

Well, I was thinking about some ways to manage my midterm idea. The red seatings at the lab were my target at the beginning. So when someone sits on them, lights will turn on towards them to give a feeling that they are on stage. When sitting there, you can see almost every part of the lab, but with this idea this time the seated person will be on stage, turn into a spectacle and so on..
As I went on thinking, I planned to put these traps all over the lab, but figured that it's going to take a lot of time and knowledge.
So I shifted to another idea. Still focusing on a physical project, I decided to have a kind of instrument:
Here we have a grid of 12 boxes with buttons/sensors in it. They are covered with some kind of paper or maybe soft fabric to give a feeling of a drum. When hit/waved/pressed, the box with make a sound. As every box has its' own sound, but the problem is I'm not sure what kind of sound they should have.
Oh and also every row will have a certain beat going on. Let's say we have a "hey!" sound on the first row; when interacted once the sound will go "hey! hey! hey! hey!".
So I'm thinking about a beatbox now.. but my mind is changing all the time. ARGH!!

You are coming to a sad realisation, Cancel or Allow?

As a PC user, I hate that security obsession! I wish, I had an emotional firewall like this though :)

me no like midterm

For my midterm, I would like to mess around with jitter and video more. When I first met max, I used it for getting live feeds from two different places and connecting them in the virtual space. Sticking on the idea, I would like to add some more into the concept of it as well. For now, what I have in mind is having a couple of videos and different sensors to trigger them. Let's say somebody is entering the 10th floor, a character will come out and swear at him. Or when somebody sits on one of the red seats, the user will hear a scream. In a way, I would like to change the lab into a crazy place. I have to see how doable this is, but my guess it won't be that hard.

confused

wow! It's been a while since I've entered my last thingy. so here is the third homework.
As I get into sound, I get a lot more confused. What I tried to do here was to have a svf as a wind sound. A matrix control with two noise that imitates a girl swimming. And the third is another matrixcontrol with two midi outputs playing Jaws.
Because my concentration sucks big time, I didn't know that whenever the document is closed, the values of the matrix control are erased. WAAAHHHH!!!
I'm looking for a way to keep the beats on going, so I tried to use counter. Interestingly, sometimes it worked as a charm but sometimes it just failed on me. so I tried tempo this time, but again I wasn't that successful.

What I really wanted to do was to have Zelda's theme play but I'm not sure which object to use for it.

Here is a postmortem document of a project I worked last year. The idea is to bring cdt students and music students together in a virtual environment.
I'll post the video and patch soon.. if i can find it..

homework02

In this patch I tried to create a little puzzle. The video is a little stop motion I made last month. On the first screen, you can rotate the image and on the second screen, which is divided into four, you can change the boxes and so on.
Now I'm going to try to get live feed to turn into a puzzle..
aaahhh

Monday, February 5, 2007

So here it goes,
It's not that different from the one we did in class, but I tried to change the background as it moves along. But what REALLY happened here was, if you wanted to change the background you had to press clear all the time.
I'm still going to work on it, let's see what happens..

bad bad student

Honesty is a gift, right?
Well I totally forgot I had to have a blog for this class, but here it is running and all awesome!
I worked with max msp before and got totally amazed of it's easy usage and it's great spectrum of aspects it has. I'm totally into the interactivity and video part. So I'm in love with jitter.
There is some little information about me..
